HCC and Corona Virus

Andy    March 17, 2020

As you know we’ve been keen for Camera Club to continue during the Corona Virus epidemic unless we received advice to the contrary. Unfortunately in light of the prime minister’s announcements yesterday we have to consider that Camera Club is non-essential social contact, and therefore the committee have sadly taken the decision to suspend the next 4 meetings.

Although we recognise that those “at risk” have the option not to attend meetings we know that our meeting room is relatively small, and hence there is the possibility that the virus may spread through ourselves and onto the wider community, which is very much the situation the government’s moves are intended to prevent to avoid a peak of cases that would overload the NHS.

We are of course sad to take this decision and are already looking at ways in which we can continue to help promote our members’ enjoyment of photography. We are currently considering a number of mechanisms and other channels through which we can bring camera club to you. These include;

  • Live-streaming of competition judging and presentations
  • Enabling a forum on the website to promote discussion on different topics
  • Online challenges
    Including for example a weekly online form of assignment night, or a head-2-head form of the match-a-slide competition

We would also like to remind members that they are able to organise small scale get togethers of their own, perhaps a photo-walk, and the What’s App group would be an ideal forum to do this.
Should you like to join the What’s App Group please contact Marcus or myself.

This situation has come about more swiftly than many imagined, however please be assured the committee are working hard to help keep-up the club’s momentum, and we will keep you up to date with any developments.

As a community if any members are self-isolating and need assistance, please reach-out to your friends within the club or the wider membership.

Please look after yourselves, and those near to you.

Regards,

Andrew Hyde

Chairman Hitchin Camera Club
