At one of our recent member’s evenings one of our new members took the guideline “photography related” and ran with it in a totally new and unexpected direction, giving us a fascinating presentation on how to paint our own photographic back drops.
In her demonstration Moira explained how with simple emulsion paints (colour samples) and a few other basic supplies you could create usable photo backgrounds.
Moira explained how plyboard or plaster board could be used for the basic of the backgrounds, and then coloured using sponging, rag rolling, and simply painting to create random patterns. Moira stressed the importance of thinking about the colours you wanted to use, and not using too strong colours and tones.
For the third of the demonstrations Moira had randomly applied Polyfiller to a board to create texture and then painted over in 3 different colours.
The examples produced on the night were quick to do, had the advantage of being colour toned to what you needed, and were significantly cheaper than the commercial offerings and of course you can use both sides of the board for 2 different effects!
