Due to the way dates fall in the early part of next year we're able to have our first competition of 2019 as "Christmas" and still be within the 12 Days of Christmas.

In order to encourage everyone to shoot images specifically for this competition and to avoid a rush to get prints made we'll only being having Projected images, however that means that you'll be allowed 3 entries for this competition, rather than the normal 2.

Our judge for the evening Colin Southgate FRPS DPAGB is such a welcomed and regular visitor to Hitchin Camera Club, he really needs no introduction at all suffice as to say we know he'll give some great feedback on our images.

If you'd like to learn more about competitions have a look at the different articles under the Club Competitions menu above, or click here for the definition.

    Don't forget

For this competition only we will allow an extra couple of days to get your images in, however they must be in by midnight on Tuesday 1st January.

Assignment nights are a really popular evening where the members get to share and talk about their images.

Six weeks before the Assignment Night our chairman will announce 2 subjects. Your mission is to shoot a maximum of 6 images that answer those subjects.

On the night your images will be shown on the screen and you'll have the opportunity to talk about, how or why you took that shot. Assignment nights are really good fun because the other member's will want to know about your photographs, and of course you'll have the opportunity to ask them about theirs!

The 2 subjects for the Assignment Night are...

    • 16 X 9 in Portrait formal

      As a phone background

      Screenshot 20181122 222304 Quickpic[4366]

      Example Shot

Here you need to a take photo that would make a good background for your mobile phone. It can be any subject, in any style, however your photo must make good use of a vertical (portrait) format and ideally have an aspect ratio of 16 X 9 (or rather 9 X 16).
If you can combine your assignment night with a screen shot of your phone so we can see your background in action, just like the examples on the right that would be even better!

    • Earth, Wind, Water and Fire
Any image which shows one or more of the 4 elements.

Nature is a fascinating subject brought to live by those who have the time, knowledge and skill give us incites into the world in which we live. Our judge for this year's nature competition will be Sarah Kelman ARPS who is giving a presentation on Nature photography at Hitchin Camera club in November, so hopefully that will give us an incite as to what's going to be well recieved.

We always end the year with a fun event, and the 2018-2019 season will be no exception.

For this year's end of season finale we'll be having a knockout competition, where each member submits a number of images. The images are shown against each other in pairs and by show of hands the audience votes for which goes through to the next round until ultimately we have a winner!
