The cyanotype process is one of the earliest photographic printing processes and creates a cyan blue print. During this one-day workshop you will learn how to create your own cyanotype prints, experimenting with the process in a variety of ways to produce a series of unique works. We will cover a brief history of the process, look at examples of contemporary artists currently working with cyanotype and explain the materials you need to get started. You will be shown how to mix the chemicals, coat your paper and once dry how to expose your images using both daylight and UV lights. You will have plenty of opportunity to experiment and we will look at different ways to create images, including making photograms with objects, using digital negatives on acetate as well as drawing and mark making onto tracing paper. All materials will be provided. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own objects with them on the day, or provide a digital image or old photograph in advance which we will make into a negative. Advice will be provided on suitable objects and images.
