Photo-walk to Ely
All dayEly
A day out to Ely by train. A cathedral town, the second smallest city in England. Named for the eels that have a strong connection with the city. Local restaurants serve eels caught in the River Great Ouse - worth a taste! There's lots to visit in Ely including the cathedral which is a must. There is also a stained glass museum, Oliver Cromwell's house, a three-story Riverside Antiques Centre, a market, a museum and much more.

We will spend the morning exploring the cathedral, have lunch (feel free to bring a picnic) and then take a walk along the river to see wildlife and waterside activities. If you wanted to stay longer into the evening you can take a ghost tour of the city.

We will meet at the following stations at these times. Don't forget to use the group ticket option if you travel with others.

Knock out competition

We always end the year with a fun event, and the 2023-2024 season will be no exception.

For this year’s end of season finale we’ll be having a knockout competition, where each member submits a number of images. The images are shown against each other in pairs and by show of hands the audience votes for which goes through to the next round until ultimately we have a winner!

To compete all you need to do is send 3 images to Gareth by midnight on Sunday 28th April in the usual way. This is a fun competition so all all images are valid even one’s you’ve used in previous HCC competitions – This is also a great way to try out new images to see what’s successful ready for the new season!

Scavenger Hunt 2024

We’ve run a scavenger hunt for several years now and it’s one of the most popular Summer Events we do. On the evening we’ll be giving out a list of 25 subjects, and I’ll be asking you to go and take images that address that subject. The subjects are wide and diverse, and will require you to use several different photographic disciplines. However just to make the exercise even more challenging there are 2 constraints;
- You’ve got 2 hours to take your shots
- You need to present your images in a square format
  Everyone needs to send sets of 25 photos which will be presented on the website as a 5 x 5 grid
You can do the scavenger hunt wherever and whenever you want (although although the organised event will be Hitchin starting at 18:30). We’ll be publishing the list on the web-site, for you to do it at your convenience (I’m trusting you to stick to the 2 hours shooting time).

Once the 2 hours is up, we'll be adjourning to a local pub - to be decided on the night (but probably the Coopers Arms.

Once you’ve taken your shots crop them to a square format, rename them with your name and the image number (e.g. “Andy Hyde – 1.jpg”), and then send them in. You can see the some recent entries here https://www.hitchincameraclub.org/2019/06/06/scavenger-hunt-photos/.

This year Mrs H. will be taking a rest from settling the subjects, so I'll be choosing so be prepared for a challenge!
